Thomas Lott & Terry Peters
Get to Know the Power Behind TNT
On Saturday, December 25, 1976, the sixth edition of the Fiesta Bowl was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ. This game matched the 8th ranked Oklahoma Sooners of the Big Eight Conference and the unranked Wyoming Cowboys of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Oklahoma was co-champion of the Big Eight Conference. Wyoming was co-champion of the WAC.
And… Both teams ran offenses out of the wishbone formation.
The Sooners came out strong on offense and defense. By halftime, the Sooners were up 20-0. The Sooners walked away with the biggest margin of victory ever in the Fiesta Bowl, 41-7. That record would stand for 20 years, beaten in 1996.
There were a number of standout plays and players in the game. Sooner quarterback, Thomas Lott, was the Offensive MVP of the game with 13 carries for 79 yards. Sooner Cornerback, Terry Peters, snagged two interceptions to take the Defensive MVP honor, and is currently a member of the Fiesta Bowl “All Legends” group.
Thomas and Terry have a friendship that goes back for decades. Their same winning spirit still compels them to pass on their knowledge and great experiences to the youth of today, and teach them how to become champions on and off the field.
