Terry Peters grew up in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and began his football journey in high school. He went on to play college football at the University of Oklahoma under legendary coach Barry Switzer. Starting as a third-string defensive back, Terry quickly earned a starting position on the Sooners’ defense, playing a key role on teams that won back-to-back national championships in 1974 and 1975. He was named Defensive Player of the Game in the 1976 Fiesta Bowl, where Oklahoma defeated Wyoming 41-7. Reflecting on his playing style, Terry says, “I didn’t play dirty, but I did play vicious, I played physical.”
Terry credits Coach Switzer and his staff not only for their football expertise but also for shaping him and his teammates into men both on and off the field. “We were champions because the coaches had a champion mindset.”
Terry is part of a remarkable family legacy at OU, with eight family members, including nephews, cousins, and brothers, having played for the Sooners. He takes great pride in both his football career and graduating from Oklahoma.
After college, Terry played professionally with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League from 1978 to 1979 and later in the United States Football League with the New Jersey Generals in 1983.
After football, Terry spent 10+ years in Corporate Sales and Marketing. He was Director of Sales with Nabisco in Irving, Texas, Zone Sales Manager with Frito Lay and Account Manager with Coca-Cola in Oklahoma City. Most recently he has been involved in Sales and Marketing and various other positions within the Gaming Industry. Terry has decades of experience and working relationships with the Chickasaw, Comanche, Tonkawa, UKB Cherokee and Choctaw Tribes in Oklahoma. Terry brings a “Get It Done” attitude to every task or assignment, always with the intent of passing that energy on to future generations.
